Identification

Left eyed flatfish. Usually green, brown with spotty coloration. Adults are very large and broad bodied. Frilly edge at front of dorsal fin.

Habitat

Usually lives on sandy sea beds ,but is sometimes encountered on gravel or mud. Juvenile fish may be found in shallow tidal waters and estuaries.

Species fact

Found on all our coasts through out the UK. The Brill is sometimes confused with the turbot, however the latter has no frilly edge at the front of the dorsal fin.
