Identification

The skin is slimy and without scales.
Generally a yellowish, creamy, green colour.
No tentacles on the head, unlike other blennies.

Habitat

Most commonly found on the shore in rock pools, or hiding under damp stones and sea weed, from where it emerges at high tide.
An adaptable species that can breath air.

Species fact

The shanny has a smooth, long body, and can grow up to 16 cm in length.
Its colouration varies with surrounding habitat.
